Ep 111: Teeing Up after an Empty Nest w/ Ketki Mathuria
After her third child left for college, Ketki Mathuria was seeking ways to fill the space in her empty nest. An invitation to play golf led to a newfound passion that has since become integral to her self-care.
In this episode, Ketki shares her journey from humble beginnings in India to working in Silicon Valley and ultimately retiring early as a software engineer to build her passion into a business—The Falcon Cup, an intercorporate golf league.
Ketki describes the many benefits she’s experienced through playing golf—spending time in nature, social connection, building physical strength, mental focus, and the opportunity to slow down from the hustle of modern life.
She also talks about the challenges of the sport—weathering the environmental conditions and being in the minority on the golf course as a woman of color.
We round out our conversation by a reflection on how the lessons she’s learned on the golf course apply to life—”play as it lies” is an important reminder to start where you are and make the best of every situation.
